Clean Routine: Haircare Edition

If you know me this might be shocking, but truth be told, my haircare routine is quite low key these days. I’ve come a long way from black hair dye in my parent’s bathroom (sorry mom!). In fact, right before I was diagnosed with cancer in 2018, I cut off all the dye out of the ends of my hair so I could start fresh. I was just so tired of spending time and money at the salon. Little did I know less than a month later I would be diagnosed and then begin dealing with chemo induced hair loss.

Luckily, I did not lose my hair during my chemo treatments. It did thin but I figured it was temporary and surely but slowly, my hair regained back its strength and length. I keep it simple these days with just a few products from a few brands I love!

This Innersense organic beauty scalp scrub is everything you need before a good shampoo! It’s tingly and minty and smells divine. We spend a lot of time and effort exfoliating everything from our faces to feet but never our scalp! It takes a few minutes to work into your scalp good but I try to do this treatment once a week, especially with all the dry shampoo I use!

Although I have been using Beautycounter for a few years now, I have to admit it took me a while to try the shampoo. I have used numerous clean(ish) drugstore brands but I always felt like they left my hair feeling on the dry side. I only shampoo my hair once or twice a week so honestly, I don’t go through these fast. They smell divine and leave my hair feeling super silky and soft. I often use the conditioner as shaving cream as well!

I will forever sing the praises of Primally Pure! I have loved every product I have tried from them and this dry shampoo is no exception. There is a shade for both light and dark hair colors. It’s just easy, it works and I know with this brand the ingredients are great as well!

I’ve also jumped on the no heat train as much as I can. My schedule these days, especially with grad school, means that I’m often showering and washing my hair at night. In the morning, I often throw it up in the sway (seriously, check this out if you haven’t) or in a bun with some hair elastics. This gets me through my morning workouts and then I work in the dry shampoo after my morning shower. It’s an always evolving process, am I right?

What are your clean haircare faves?!

Beautycounter: Moisture Edition

I often hear that people want to try Beautycounter but not necessarily purchase a regimen, which I understand. Purchasing an entire regimen can be intimidating! It’s smart to start off with a few staples to introduce to your routine!

For the entire month of April new customers (and email addresses used) get 30% off with the coupon code CLEANFORALL30. That’s a bigger discount than I get as a consultant! In the spirit of sharing the clean beauty love and helping you learn what products are right for you, here are my dry skin picks!
  1. Countertime Tetrapeptide Supreme Cream – This night cream is super thick & indulgent. It’s from the Countertime line for antiaging. It uses a safer alternative to retinol, Bakuchiol. With continued use, you’ll wake up to more radiant, youthful-looking skin for sure. You can slather this cream on top of any other treatment creams you might use for spots or discoloration. It’s definitely one to check out if you are looking to add something extra to just boost hydration at night.

  2. Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion – For your everyday, lasting hydration look no further than our Countermatch line. Perfect for sensitive skin, soaks in quickly, helps even out skintone. This entire line in the white bottles will deliver your skin so much goodness to keep it hydrated and supple. Just read the reviews.

  3. Lotus Glow Cleansing Balm – This is another favorite for dehydrated skin! The uses are endless: it takes off makeup, use it to double cleanse, use on cuticles and elbows, lip balm before bed…

Last but not least do not forget about moisturizing your actual B O D Y! I’m telling you, from internally to externally, hydration is our biggest problem! No matter your preference, Beautycounter has a safer but luxurious and high performing option!

If I have to pick a favorite I would go with the hydrating body lotion, the newly relaunched packaging is refillable and it’s a great everyday staple to hydrate the skin! The luminous hydration body oil also goes the extra mile and is great to pat onto damp skin right out of the shower. Lastly, if you’re just looking for summer in a bottle, look no further than the melting body balm, it will quickly become your favorite with the scent of summer and a formula that melts as you apply!

Don’t forget to apply the 30% off code and you can scoop up a lot of these hydration stars for under $50! That is a great clean additional to your hydration routine!!

Stay hydrated friends! xoxo

Coffee Alternatives

I’ve recently tried to cut out coffee after 1pm (ok, 2pm). I honestly don’t have a ton of issues with sleep, but I do know that I drink a ton of caffeine, so in the name of health and better habits I’ve recently tried out some better alternatives! Here are my thoughts:

Breakaway Coldbrew Matcha – (25mg caffeine per serving) This is so interesting because it’s cold brew and I’m always on team iced! I got this as a gift and I was not used to seeing cold brew matcha, I thought it was unique! Matcha is known to help stabilize blood sugar levels, so it’s a great choice for diabetics (or really anyone!). To get the full benefits, it’s best not to drink with milk (see their FAQ page); however, if you’re looking for a healthier alternative this is definitely a good one to try. I don’t mind the taste, though I do sweeten it with some honey!

Amazing Grass Green Superfood Effervescent Greens – (85mg caffeine per serving) Ok. I’m going to be totally transparent on this one, these do not taste good. If you are a baby about stuff tasting “healthy”, please scroll past. However, I really love these! I have purchased these a few times. No idea how I came across them but they are convenient to drop into water bottles. I definitely get a noticeable boost of energy with these and I like the way they make me feel. No jittery feeling. Also a plus for anything that has a serving of greens in it. Two thumbs up!

Liquid IV Energy Multiplier – (100mg caffeine per serving) I’m sure you’ve likely seen this brand all over Instragam. Truthfully, this was an impulse Costco buy that did not disappoint! The ginger-lemon flavor is actually quite good! I kept a few of these in my purse and at work for a quick and convenient alternative to afternoon coffee. Definitely will purchase again!

What are your afternoon pick-me-up faves?

How Do I Choose…

If you have followed me for any length of time, you know I am a fan of Beautycounter of course. Naturally a makeup and skincare junkie I truly did love and use the products first, then thought dangit, why can’t I build a business too? So slowly but surely I have done that. Don’t let anyone tell you selling skincare and makeup is silly! The market for clean beauty is literally exploding! Beautycounter has really capitalized on a movement of not only clean ingredients but full transparency in sourcing and production etc. They really do set the standards high for clean beauty. Some months this Beautycounter business has brought me as much as my part-time job does working 29 hours a week, that’s pretty good in my book!

So let’s break down the cleansers Beautycounter offers and I’ll give you my two cents on each!

Countercontrol – This cleanser is one of my go-to’s right now, especially as the months start to heat up and my garage workouts get a little sweaty! It’s deep cleaning, foaming, gentle, not overdrying, and exfoliating. Honestly a little goes a long way so the tube lasts a long time. I really need one to live in my shower and one on my counter, it’s definitely a regular in my routine these days!

Countermatch – Countermatch is the longtime favorite in our lineup! It’s balancing and hydrating, soaks in quickly, and is brightening. I guarantee if you regularly use this line you will see your skin tone balance out and brighten. I used this line exclusively myself for the better part of last year and it’s so great! If your skin is combo/normal or on the dry side, this is a great line! It’s luxurious and will really leave your skin soft.

Countertime – This is our newest line for aging skin. Formulated with a safer alternative to retinol, bakuchiol. This cleanser is oil-based as opposed to our other cleansers, and it helps to maintain the integrity of the skin’s moisture barrier. My best tip is to really rub it into the skin and then use a damp washcloth to wipe it all off. Double cleansing can also help you achieve that clean feeling if you’re not used to oil-based cleansers!

Speaking of Double Cleansing…

…don’t count it out! Especially once you’ve established a full skincare routine! There are benefits, especially done at night!

The benefit of that double cleanse!

However you slice it, I do believe we’ve got a cleanser that is just right for YOU my friend! Let me give you a sample or loan you a whole regime kit if you’re local!

That App Life

I know we all can end up with random apps on our phones we no longer use…right?… RIGHT?

I thought I’d list a few I actually use on a regular basis that I deem useful so here we go:

  • GetSorted – This is a great app to tidy up your photo library. I end up with thousands of photos on my phone so this app sets small goals for going through photos by date and month and deleting/saving what you want! It’s all about small goals and fun rewards along the way!

  • Rakuten – If you are spending money online and aren’t using this you are crazy! Especially around the holidays! You just pull up the app, see all the stores that offer cashback and then shop through that link. You can even link to your cards so it automatcailly credits you cash back when you shop in person. You can sign up HERE. It’s worth it! *Disclaimer that I do get some free cash if you sign up with my link, and so do YOU!

  • Dark Sky – I heard about this app from a podcast I listen to and have been using it since! This is apparently a super accurate weather app people in Hollywood use to track the weather for shooting movies (so they say). Anyways, its easy, it always pulls up to my city and shows an hourly breakdown of temp/rain chance so it’s convenient. Especailly in Florida where rain can come on quite quickly! Or when I spend two hours trying to decide if I should water my plants or not.

  • Dunkin DonutsDo not laugh! You need this if you’re a DD fan. There is one by my house and I have gotten quite a few free coffees earned by using this app! It’s super easy to order ahead and they often run deals for double points and other specials for app users only!

  • ABC Mouse – We subscribe to ABC Mouse and honestly, I do feel like it’s worth it. They have both preschool and kindergarten level for each of my kids. My 3yo doesn’t play it much, but my 6yo does! He enjoys the matching games, mazes, taking care of the pets etc. Worth It. He can’t really work a mouse but honestly…aren’t those probably going to be extinct by the time he grows up? Everything will be touch screen. He mostly plays this on the ipad and it’s way better than anything you’ll find on youtube kids!

What other apps are you liking these days? Hard to keep up with the constant new ones coming out. I’m always deleting unused apps from my phone! Time for a clean-up…

Top 3!

Standouts from each skincare line

Beautycounter has been running some killer deals lately in the skincare department! In honor of our upcoming flash sales all this week, I thought I’d detail my TOP 3 products from each skincare line at Beautycounter.

Skincare can definitely be a cocktail of different lines and products so it might take some time to nail down what works for you. Honestly, part of the fun of skincare for me is trying new things!!

Here are my TOP THREE from each line we carry:

Countercontrol is our line for acne or blemish-prone skin. This line is all about clearing up the skin without irritation while balancing skin. If you’re looking for the clean equivalent of the Clean & Clear Pore Cleanser, look no further! The Countercontrol Cleanser is where it’s at! This is an amazing, lightweight, exfoliating cleanser that is great for everyday use in the morning & at night. It has a great lather and just leaves my skin feeling fresh! I was slow to try this line because I thought I didn’t have oily skin but this has been a great addition to my routine every morning! It’s helped to clear up some small under the skin bumps I didn’t even think were an issue. Definitely a standout for me!

Countermatch is our line for more normal to combination skin that’s all about long-lasting (but lightweight) moisture and an everyday glow. Can’t argue with that! This Countermatch Overnight Recovery Cream is super rich and will leave your skin feeling ultra moisturized. You can mix this with our No. 1, 2 or 3 oil for even more hydration at night! Sometimes those nighttime cocktails are the best! I think we often underestimate how thirsty our skin is and this line is great at providing that rich moisture without feeling greasy! This has definitely been a constant in my routine ever since I got it a year ago. I have reordered it a few times!

Countertime is our anti-aging line made safer with the use of plant-derived Retinatural Complex. No more worrying about going out in the sun or harsh ingredients. This Countertime Mineral Boost Hydrating Essence is what you would use as your toner step. It’s honestly like botox in a bottle! (Ok, full disclosure, I’ve never had botox) BUT it does work to tighten skin, minimize pores, and prep the skin for the next step! It’s a different feeling product to apply than your usual toner but you can definitely feel a difference in your skin after applying! A small amount in your hand and press into skin…guarantee if you add this to your rotation it will quickly become your favorite! My bottle of this has lasted me a ridiculously long time as well, a little goes a long way!

What products have you been curious to try? You can take a skincare quiz here to find the line that’s right for you OR let me curate your cart for you!

Stay hydrated!

Skincare Roundup

Over the years my skin issues have morphed just like everyone else. I’ve gone from oily teenage acne to dry combination to hormonal pregnancy acne – fun! Today I’ve rounded up my skincare favorites I currently rotate! The main thing I’ve learned over the years is…hydrate! Do you know I never used moisturizer until college?! I haven’t landed on a face wash I currently love yet so feel free to throw some clean options my way! My current favorites are below:

  • Foreo Luna – I got this device in a subscription box and let it sit in my cabinet for months! I finally pulled it out after seeing something about it online. Wow, what a difference after just one use! I use this every night in the shower – it exfoliates and leaves my skin so soft!

  • Drunk Elephant – This is an amazing, albeit pricey, skincare brand! Hot tip is that Sephora & Amazon sell mini sets of daytime & nighttime duos that you can buy for roughly $20. I usually always buy the mini bottles because they are a better deal for the amount of product and it’s a great way to test it out before committing to a full size product!

  • Lavido Facial Serum – Another serum that is frequently on rotation is this all natural one from Lavido. When I use serums at night, I keep my skin a little damp and then pat the oil on. This one is a tad greasy and I only use it at night. It hydrates very well!

  • Shea Moisture Coconut Oil  – Did you think I was going to leave coconut oil off the list?! I slather this on after getting out of the shower. I also use it on my cuticles, hair, feet etc. When I use my Vitamin E oil, I mix it with this coconut oil to dilute its thick consistency.

  • Vitamin E Oil  – Vitamin E is so good for the skin. Pure vitamin E oil is extremely thick and will need to be mixed with another oil so it can be applied to the skin. I always use coconut oil. I put this around my eyes, on my forehead – basically any place I get wrinkles.

  • Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil  – Pretty sure I came across this from a beauty influencer but this is a great, cheap option! After pregnancy I suffered with melasma and using this regularly at night has helped lighten my super dark spots. It’s also clean with minimal ingredients.

  • Aztec Secret – Indian Healing Clay Mask – If you haven’t heard of this you have been living under a rock! It’s a powder and when mixed with apple cider vinegar (always look for ‘the mother’ on your apple cider vinegar) it creates a great detoxifying mask! It does dry my skin out so I slather oil on afterwards, what’s new!

Let me know your current favorites and anything I need to try out!
